Days 27-28: Working on my perpetual calendar

One personal creative project that I wanted to tackle during this sabbatical was creating a perpetual calendar. What is a perpetual calendar you ask? It's a series of photos that you clip together that forms a calendar on your wall. Each photo can be one of three things: a letter that represents a day of the week, a number that represents the day of the month, or a "filler" photo. When the month ends, just rearrange the numbers and filler photos so that they line up on the correct days of the week. Sound confusing? Here's an example of my favorite one:

Photo taken from this Apartment Therapy post. Created by Little Brown Pen.
Cool, right? This one was made exclusively from photos taken in Paris. I saw this almost two years ago and have since then wanted to make my own with photos taken in Chicago. I took some photos downtown, in Wicker Park and around the Western stop off the blue line and stitched together this draft so far.

My mockup for the beginnings of my calendar.
I may end up changing many of these photos depending on how the colors relate to one another. I think what makes the Paris one so successful is the even color tone shared between all the photos. In case you were wondering what the source of each photo is:

Row 1:
  • "S" from the "Push" sign on the entrance to the Damen blue line station.
  • "M" from Mastro's Steakhouse. I found out that Mastro's isn't unique to Chicago so I'm not sure I'll keep it -- still, I think the design is very nice.
  • "T" from the Chicago Tribune building.
  • "W" from the Watershed.
  • "Th" from the Booth School of Business sign on the Gleacher Center.
  • "F" from a vintage block letter hanging on the wall at Lenny & Me in Wicker Park.
  • "S" from Yu Shan Chinese Restaurant at 17 East Ohio.
Row 2:
  • One of the clocks on the corner of the Marshall Field and Company building (now a Macy's).
  • A street art sticker on the side of a building on Milwaukee Ave.
  • A drink token for Longman & Eagle.
  • "3" from a chalk sign I saw at the entrance to the Riverwalk on Clark and Wacker.
  • "4" from Tree Studios at 4-6 East Ontario Street.
Row 3:
  • "5" from the NBC building.
  • "6" from the bus stop sign at State and Lake.
Row 4:
  • "12" from the specials menu at Xoco.
  • "14" from the address of the bloomingdale's home store on East Ontario.
  • "15" spray-painted on the road for the sewer work they're doing in Wicker Park.
  • "16" from the Chicago Theatre. Chris Tucker is playing September 16.
  • "17" from the awning of Yu Shan Chinese Restaurant (see the last "S" in Row 1).
  • "18" from one of the murals on the side of Hollywood Cleaners, on the corner of my block.
Row 5:
  • "20" from the NBC new ticker.
  • "23" from the numbers stamped on the el pillars next to my apartment.
  • "24" indicating the hours of Arturo's.
  • "25" from the side of the Tribune building.
Row 6:
  • My feet waiting for the blue line, my lifeblood.
Row 7:
  • Pizza at Great Lake.
  • Big Star's big star.
  • A Blah Blah Blah bill posted on Milwaukee Ave.
  • My Calumet Fisheries beer cozy.
  • A city porn shot taken from the Michigan Ave bridge.
  • Batman and Robin. They're part of the other mural on the side of Hollywood Cleaners.
Do you have any suggestions of where I should get the rest of my photos?
